water bottle rocket

In science we have been making bottle rockets powered by water and compressed air. It was really fun we got into groups of two or three, I was in a group of three with David and Lucy. I was the engineer and the rocket scientist so I pretty much did everything. I designed the fins and David cut them out, I then made a logo. Lucy made a nose cone which I tuned up so it was good for the rocket. I then attached the wings.

We launched the rocket by using a wooden launch pad and an air pump with a cork on the end. We added some water and pumped the pump to launch our rocket high into the sky.

When we launched it the first time it only went a short distance until it crashed into the ground. The second time it only went a little bit further before it crashed. On the third and final time it went the really far and ended up going farther than any other rocket. I was really happy at how far it had gone and I suggest you try it too.

Geometric 3D Shapes

In maths we have been making 3D geometric shapes, I made 2 3D shapes. I made an icosahedron and a cube.

WALT: create and construct nets of different 3D shapes.

here is my cube and an icosahedron

Paperboy metaphors and similies

for reading we had to complete a document on metaphors and similies

W.A.L.T: write our own similes and metaphors based on the characters in Paperboy

Prior Knowledge (PK): In your own words, describe the following:

Metaphor
Something you say that means something else.
Simile
A sentence that describes what they are doing with the help of something else.

Your Task:

Describe what the following phrases mean or represent. You might need to flip back to the pages to remind
yourself of the context.
Metaphor: “Mrs. Worthington and her red hair. That was the dessert of my thinking” (p. 154).
I think this means that Mrs. Worthington's hair was the last thing on little mans mind like dessert is the last
thing you might eat in a meal.

Simile: “[Mr. Spiro] sounded official like he was calling a baseball game on the radio” (p. 30).
I think this means that Mr. Spiro was talking in a game commentator voice.

Write a metaphor that best
describes Little Man’s
relationship with Mam
Little Man and Mam fit together like strawberry's and chocolate fondue.
Write a simile that describes
Little Man’s communication
with TV boy
When TV boy is infront of the TV he seems as still as a rock.

Paperboy Questions

For reading we had to answer the questions below about the book that we have been reading.

What is the conflict between Ara T and Little Man? How will it be resolved?

Ara T has little man's knife and wont give it back until little man calls it by its proper name, which he
can't because of his stutter so he was planning to take it back in secrecy.
Why do you think Little Man likes Mr Spiro so much?

Because Mr Spiro talks in kind and cool ways and little man likes talking with Mr Spiro.
Research what a speech pathologist does. Explain what their job is and how they help people.
They are highly researched proffesionals that help people that have speach problems.
Who is Mam? What is her role in the family?

The house wife
What do you notice about the way that dialogue is written within Paperboy? Why do you think the
author chose to write this way?
* Dialogue is when characters are speaking to each other
It is written on the next line down, I think they chose to write this way because of what was explained
on one of the first pages. They wrote that the person they were writing about in third person didn’t
like commas and apostrophes look like commas.
Pick one character from your organizer that you have been working on. Explain them in full, giving as much detail as we know about them from Chapters 1-6. Little Man is a character who can’t say his name because he has a stutter. He took over his friends paper run after he hurt them with one of his fastballs. He likes to talk to a man named Mr Spiro who talks in odd ways. He lives with a person he calls mam who looks after him and cooks for him.

Personification of a can

At first I felt heavy with my own self esteem weighing me down.

I slowly felt myself lose that weight as people did nasty things around me.

Now I feel empty, alone and hollow like there is nothing left for me.

What was your experience of this activity involving personifying a can of shave gel?
Well at first the can felt heavy and weighted but as people sprayed gel out of the can it began to feel lighter and emptier. I felt as though I was being mean to it and making it feel bad.

What did you learn?
Even the smallest thing can leave a result as big as an ocean. Even if that's not what the teacher wanted me to learn that's what I did learn.

Blog annoyance DLO

For cybersmart we have been looking at things that are annoying on our blogs. We also had to come up with a solution to these problems, me and my cybersmart partner came up with the idea to create a DLO about how annoying it is.
