Merchant Of Venice Act 3 Scene 2 reflection

The questions for Scene 2

Why does Portia want Bassanio to delay his choice?
She doesn't want Bassanio to leave so soon if he does pick the wrong casket.

What makes Bassanio choose lead over the silver and gold caskets?, find the quotes in the text to support your thinking.
Thou gaudy gold, hard food for Midas, I will none of thee; nor none of thee, thou pale and common drudge 'tween man and man: but thou, thou meagre lead, which rather threat'nest than dost promise aught, thy paleness moves me more than eloquence.

What does Portia’s speech A3S2 L166-174 reveal about the expected roles of a woman in marriage.
They are property to the men.

What did Gratiano’s and Nerissa’s wish to marry depend on?
Bassanio had to marry Portia.

How does Portia know that the letter contains bad news?
Bassanio went really pale when he read the letter.

What help does Portia offer straightaway?
She wants to give him lots of money to save his friend.

Why do we not expect this help to be successful?
Shylock really wants a pound of flesh from Antonio.

Do you think Portia would still be in love with Bassanio if she knew he had lied about his wealth?
Yes, she liked him all ready.

Nightmare Adventure

Here is a scary story I wrote for english.

Life’s all happy and fun when you’re a young kid just recently into primary school unless you go
through a cursed adventure full of all the things you’re afraid of. This was the case for Ember who
was only in her second week since starting school. She dresses in warm clothes with pockets that
could house her favorite teddie. It started after a regular day of school, the rain was pouring and her
brother hadn’t arrived to walk her home. She had an umbrella, of course, since the weather report
said there would be rain. She was getting cold and thought she should start walking home, all but one
teacher had gone home and she didn’t want to bother him. When she left the gate the rain started
getting heavier, she put up her hand like she had seen brother do. As the rain hit her hand she
yanked it back, the rain was as hard as hail. Then she was knocked off her feet by a large scary dog
trailing a broken lead. This sent her straight to tears, she had seen this dog on past walk homes with
brother but never talked to it. She ran off leaving the dog confused, it didn’t usually scare people
away. She had dropped the umbrella when she ran away from the dog and it was still raining hard.
Cold and scared Ember ran for the nearest shelter from the rain, a small alley. Whoops bad choice,
as she rounded the corner she saw something that sent her adrenaline into overload. Just ahead of
her she could see two very violent looking men, one wielding a knife. She was afraid of knives and
sharp things after dropping one through her foot that time she got in the cutlery drawer. The men
were yelling at each other using all the swear words they knew. That’s when one of them thrust the
knife through the other’s chest. The dying man locked eyes with Ember, anger, fear and betrayal in
his eyes. This told the other man of her presence, she dashed behind a dumpster. She hoped
against hope she hadn’t been spotted, she didn't want to end up like the man. She was worried that
he would stick his face round the dumpster and stab her before she knew what was happening. That
didn’t happen but she was sure it would. The living man cautiously walked past knife still in hand. He
left the alley. Ember took this as a chance for her to run in the opposite direction, so she ran not
knowing where she was headed. She tripped and fell landing near another exit to the alley. A kind
looking old lady just so happened to be putting her trash out at the time and saw her fall. The lady
rushed to help, after what Ember had just been through she probably looked homeless. Carrying
Ember on her back she took her back to her house. Ember didn’t complain she was really tired and
fell asleep on the journey there. As her eyelids flicked open she was confused for a time not knowing
where she was. She soon remembered that an old lady had taken her home after seeing her fall over
in the alley. As Ember surveyed her surroundings, she could see shelves and shelves full of dolls.
There was a dim flickering lightbulb above where she was lying and a brighter light coming from
behind a curtain covered doorway. The curtain was drawn and the old lady came through, medical kit
in hand, “now let's take a look at that knee” she said in a soft, cooing voice. With all the adrenaline
from fear and exhaustion, she hadn’t even noticed her knee was raw and bleeding. The old lady
washed her bleeding knee and tied a bandage around it. Ember was grateful but the lights stopped
and Ember could no longer see the old lady. The lights came back only a few seconds later and all
the dolls were gone, the old lady too. The hands wrapped around her neck and Ember was thrust
into the air. The dolls were on the ceiling the old lady too, the old lady was missing her head though.
The dolls were covered in blood and some had knives, they were probably going to kill her. As a doll
thrust a knife towards her neck she woke up, it was just a bad dream. Ember was in a hospital bed,
her mother told her she had caught hypothermia and had been asleep for three days. Then she told
her mom of her NIGHTMARE ADVENTURE.

Designing The Layout Of A Classroom

Recently our brand new classes were finished and we moved into them yesterday. The math classroom had moved and the teacher asked us to create a design process about how we would lay out the room.

The Brief:
How could you rearrange the room.

Research:
There are 24 small blue desks.
There are two tall whiteboard tables.
One cupboard, Tv, and computer table.
And lastly two whiteboards.
we need to account for doors and windows.

Ideas:
Here are some ideas we came up with.

Final Idea:
This is our final idea, the one we liked the most.

Evaluation:
In my opinion it was a really good design, the chairs and tables don't look like they would get in each other's way. The whiteboard and TV are easy to see, and There are a lot of different numbers of tables in a clump for different people. the desks don't get in the way of the doors, so people can get in and out.
What do you think?

Videogame Gone Rouge - The Eevees Breakout

After an hour or so of playing non stop pokemon it was time to put down the switch and... you have no idea what's going on do you. Well I just bought myself a Nintendo Switch and was playing the new game Pokemon Let's Go Eevee. I was feeling kind of peckish and went to raid the pantry for something to eat. When I got back there were tons of Eevee in my room, how this came to be is a long story....

So I was playing let's go eevee and I was walking around for a bit and I came across a patch of grass filled with Eevee I think it was a glitch. Now I really like Eevee so I caught 'em all, now the Eevee's weren't happy about this and I got swarmed. I was kind of paranoid that if I came across an Eevee I wouldn't have enough pokeballs to catch it so I had a TON, over 100. I had enough pokeballs to most of them but there were two I hadn't caught, and they were really mad! I ran away from them. They chased me down I managed to get to the pokemon center and bought some more pokeballs. I just managed to catch them before they used swift on me. Crisis averted I stopped playing to go get some food, panic really makes you hungry. Now back to the many many Eevee's in my room.....

The two Eevee were fuming by now and they spoke in english to tell me off, like a angry parent. "HOW DARE YOU!!!!! How dare you take advantage of our family reunion!! You trainers are a great big pain in the *bleep* (The Eevee swore), we all haven't seen each other in ages and you jus--" I cut him off by pressing my face into his super soft, fluffy mane. I looked up and saw the eevee was bright red, I guess it feels weird to have someone touch your fur when you're a wild Eevee. The Eevee was also very much annoyed by this, He used swift and then every other Eevee also used swift. It really hurt but they returned to the screen, no longer caught by me and they all left.

The End.

This story won't ever happen to you, also I haven't played pokemon let's go yet so don't judge if some of the story is different to how the game works. Tell me what you thought of my story.

A 30sec Self Directed Film

In english we have been making our own 30 second films, in five groups we chose topics and started planning. I don't know much about the planning because I was doing something else but I can tell you about other things. I being the main actor had the most important part, if I wasn't there the film would have been a disaster. I had to steal a book and get caught! I know so cool, be amazed. We filmed six different scenes the last one was me being caught, I wanted to hit the librarian with a book though. The editing took a while but we ended up with a great film, it had great music too. Actually never mind the editors failed ha ha ha hee.
hopefully you like it because I did but don't anymore.

Oh questions:
  • What am I learning?
About making films.
  • How does this work show my learning?
it has the finished product.
  • What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
how long it takes to make an hour and a half film, this took three weeks.

Calculating Squares On A Grid

In math we have been learning how to calculate the number of squares on the outside of a 10x10 grid. We have been figuring out ways to figure out the number of squares on the outside of a grid. I will explain two ways to do it, a complex way and a easy way.
First the Complex way:

Find the total number of squares by timesing one side by the other side. Then remove the squares around the outside and times the new side by the other new side. Afterwards minus the smaller number from the bigger number and you have your answer. You can do algebra by changing the ten to n and the 8 to n-2.
Now the easy way:

If the sides are 10 then you can times them by four then you can minus four this works on any number. See told you it was easy, you can also do algebra with this one by changing it to 4n which means 10+10+10+10 minus four.
Now you know how to calculate the square on the outside of a grid, so tell all your friends and act like a nerd if you want to. Also comment any other ways you can think of doing it.

Setting in Coraline

We're STILL doing film study in English because topics take a while, which is why we only have five this year. This time I had to make a Digital Poster showing the settings in Coraline.
And the famous Questions:

What am I learning?
About the importance of setting in a film.

How does this work show my learning?
Because I would need a reasonably good understanding of setting if I were to make anything decent.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?
Would it ruin the movie if the real world was somewhere warm and tropical.

Coraline - What I remember

In English we are doing film study, the film we are doing is called Coraline.

It starts off with Coraline moving to a new house called 'The Pink Palace'. After she arrives she goes into the garden and grabs a stick off a bush to use as a dowsing rod. she follows the dowsing rod trying to find a well, when she reaches the well we first meet a character named Wyborn. Wyborn scares Coraline when he enters because he rode down from up above her wearing a strange mask. Wyborn points out the well Coraline was looking for and points out that the dowsing rod Coraline was using was made out of poison oak. Then it starts to rain, and that was the first five minutes of the movie. (that's not all I remember but oh well)

Example of a peel paragraph about Martha from the novel abomination:
Throughout the novel 'Abomination' Martha is bullied. An example of this is the incident with the girls throwing water into the stall soaking Martha. When she came out of the stall they punched her in the stomach and called her a slut. This made Martha feel angry and upset. Unsurprisingly this is a example of physical bullying by students toward Martha. There was a imbalance of power between Martha and her bullies because there was one of her and three of them. Another way Martha experiences suffering is at the hands of her parents and the Church of the Righteous.

Distillation Experiment

In Science we are doing an experiment involving boiling coke to see what is left behind.

Aim: Separate the solute from the solvent in stevia coke.

Hypothesis: That the coke will leave a strangely colored liquid and some crystals.

Equipment: Stevia coke, Conical flask, Heatproof mat, A delivery tube and bung, Bunsen burner, Tripod, Gauze mat, Retort stand, Boss head and clamp, Boiling tube.

Method:
  1. Set up equipment as shown in diagram.
  2. Add approximately 50 mL of coke to your conical flask.
  3. Light your bunsen burner. Open the air hole and gently push the bunsen burner under the tripod.
  4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has evaporated. Turn off your Bunsen burner.

Results/Observations: The coke boiled very quickly and not a lot of crystals were left. The liquid was clear.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was completely wrong for the results were the opposite to my hypothesis.

Discussion: The liquid was clear and there weren't a lot of crystals because stevia coke is made up of mainly liquid ingredients.

Evaluation: My experiment was a success, I was able to separate the solute from the solvent in stevia coke (even if there wasn't much solute). If I did it again I would use a different type of coke.

To understand the task click this LINK then look through the site starting by clicking 'Creator' then clicking 'Is a remixed idea an original idea?' then look at the video and the three questions my answer to one is below:

Link to video
What part of this video struck you the most? Why?
The sueing part! I don’t want to get sued.

Next click continue, scroll down and watch video B Then you can look at the questions my answers below:

  1. If you had to sum up your initial reaction in one word after watching this video, what would it be?
    Why?
One word: What!!! I can’t believe you’ve done this Disney.😱
  1. Are you surprised that Disney has recycled parts of old animated films for newones? Why, or why not? Does it change your opinion about Disney's creativity?
I am extremely surprised because they use so many animators. Now I wonder why Disney needs 76 main
animators.😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
  1. How do you think they reused animated sequences like this? How do you think that process works? (Hint: Look up "rotoscoping" online.)
Rotoscoping, by tracing over motion picture footage so it can be used again.😏
  1. How do you think the animators for Snow White (1937) would feel if they knew animators for Robin Hood (1973) copied their work?
I don't think they would care because Disney is copy & pasting every where.😶
  1. Does the fact that these are traditional animations (drawn by hand versus animated on a computer) make you feel any differently about their being copied? Why, or why not?
Animating by computer is easier than if animated by hand. So do your own animating you lazy 76 animators.😤
  1. Some of the dogs from Lady and the Tramp are featured briefly in 101 Dalmatians. Do you think these cameos are a form of copying? Or is Disney simply referencing its characters and movies again for fun? Is there a difference?
No I do not think it is copying I think it is just a reference to the lady and the tramp. There is a difference between referencing and copying.😑

Then I did activity B which is this:

In my opinion this was a lot of work but really fun and so worth it.

Amber Color Poem

In the hole in the ground far below, a piece of gem doth show, on closer look Amber it doth be. The glittering amber glimmered in the sun. Amber is a bright colour, amber is the colour of sunset. Amber is a colour that I always want to see just like the sun that shines in the sky. Amber is my Favorite colour, Amber is like the sun. When I look at you I see the sun, I see the flaming burning amber within you as it burns and withers. Amber is a colour that shall be, it glistens and glows in a underneath a patch of cracked stone. Amber is the jewel of love, You can see amber on the night sky. When I stare at the amber skies as the sun set, I think of love.

Critical Questioning Matrix

For English today we have to answer questions of our choice about a few things of our choice. Two ads or one short text and one music video. I has chosen to do the second choice one short text and one music video.

First the short text:

Why are you reading this text?
Because Patricia Grace is a great author and the text sounded interesting.

What does the author want us to know?
That things don't have to be spazzy and new to be cool.

What kind of language is used in the text?
The kind of language you would find in a professional book.

How does the text construct a version of reality?
The fact that it's like the real life of a normal couple of kids enjoying their Christmas present in the part at the end.

Here is a link to the story so you can read it yourself LINK.

Second the music video:

What do the words suggest?
That the guy didn't do much to please the girl so she left.

What is the video about, how do you know?
About being broken up with because he says a lot of things about losing someone.

What kinds of social realities does this video portray?
The fact that lots of people go through break up.

Who is the most likely audience of this video and why?
Others with girlfriends so they don't make the same mistake.

Here is a link to the video so you can watch it yourself LINK.

We are also finishing our crash course on critical literacy so we also have to do a reflection.

What do you think Critical Literacy is?
I think critical literacy is figuring out if something is real or fake and what the text means.

What did you learn during Critical Literacy?
Just because something sounds real doesn't mean it is.

What did you find challenging during Critical Literacy?
Finishing stuff.

How will you use Critical Literacy skills in real life?
To figure out if something is real or not.

What are you looking forward to in English this year?
Novel study and creative writing

Science

What is a Scientist?

I think a scientist is a crazy lab coat wearing person that does stuff with stuff. I think their job is to find out stuff about what people call magics. They cover a lot of topics like health, biology, astronomy and geology.

Mr Google says that a scientist is a person that studies or has expert knowledge on natural or physical sciences.

An Egg sample of a scientist is Isaac Newton he found out about gravity and created the three laws of movement the most well known being the third law.

Critical Literacy Practice

For this task we had to look at a news article and try and figure out if it was real or not.

Image result for millions abandoned cars in germany

This was the article which is fake, rather than Germans it was in fact a picture of a large traffic jam in China from 2010. There was probably a reason they posted it like them being angry at rising fuel prices.

Factual or Satirical news sites

Today we are checking to see if we can find the difference between factual and satirical posts.

The onion
What does the website look like?
Like a news site.
What photos is it using?
A photo of a man being surrounded by drones flying past.
What headlines are they sharing?
A headline that looks like it should be part of the story.
Do you think it is a factual website, or a satirical website?
Satirical.

The New York times
What does the website look like?
Like a news site.
What photos is it using?
A picture of a room filled with people.
What headlines are they sharing?
Something that sounds like you would find in the paper.
Do you think it is a factual website, or a satirical website?
Factual

The Civilian
What does the website look like?
Like a news site.
What photos is it using?
A horse race.
What headlines are they sharing?
That the winner ran round in circles.
Do you think it is a factual website, or a satirical website?
Satirical.

Daily Mail
What does the website look like?
Still like a news site.
What photos is it using?
Three pictures of a person with text at the bottom.
What headlines are they sharing?
Too long for some one to want to read.
Do you think it is a factual website, or a satirical website?
Satirical.

Five things you could use to check if a News Site is real of not:
  1. Check if it sounds believable.
  2. Check all the facts carefully.
  3. Check if the headline sounds like a headline you would find in the paper.
  4. Check another website with a story on the same topic and see if they're similar.
  5. Check down the side of the site and see if there are any non believable posts.

What am I learning?
Critical thinking.
How does this work show my learning?
Because you have to think carefully too make sure you don't accept fake news.
What am I wondering?
Why do people set up fake news sites.
