Discovery work

Within heath we were instructed to complete a task where we created a DLO around a topic of our choice in groups if we wanted. The topic my group chose was regarding transgender in sport and from there we created a pile of memes.

firstly we had to answer some self chose 5 BIG questions regarding the topic we had chosen. We answered the questions in a slide with the info we had gathered online.

Then it was time to create our DLO of 10 memes.

I am glad I chose said topic to do because it allowed me to take some of the information and apply it to another class. See school isn't useless, you can use school stuff in school.

Santa

Santa claus, Sinterklaas, Father Christmas, St. Nicholas, what do they all have in common? They're all the same person.

The modern Santa claus is based off of the Dutch Sinterklaas which comes from Turkey's St. Nicholas, the saint of children and sailors.

Sinterklaas was known for riding a white horse along side Black Peter, Black Peter took children away in a sack.

St. Nicholas would throw a sack of coins down the chimney which were collected in socks left out to dry.

Fire Resistance

In science we were tasked to research about fires an fire proofing.

How do bushfires start and why has climate change made them more common?

Bushfires are caused by heat, mainly they're started by humans but the can naturally be started by lightning or rocks falling and creating sparks. Climate Change dries out materials and creates a warmer environment that allows fires to last longer and become more dangerous.

What are three ways to fireproof your house if you were in a fire risked area?

1. Wool. Wool is naturally flame resistance and only smolders rather than melting, dripping, and sticking making the material safer. By changing carpet, curtains, and bedding can prevent quick fire spreading. Wool also produces less smoke than other materials.

2. Drywall. A drywall made of gypsum and water between two sheets of paper is hard to burn as gypsum has a high burn point and the water would take a lot to evaporate. The paper will still burn though.

3. Fire resistant wood. it is possible to purchase fire resistant wood that can slow the spread of fire.

When something burns it combusts, sometimes it can be incomplete combustion, what's the difference?

When something incompletely combusts it doesn't have enough oxygen to completely create carbon dioxide so instead produces carbon in the form of soot and carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is poisonous, colorless, and tasteless.
