What is a Scientist?

I think a scientist is a crazy lab coat wearing person that does stuff with stuff. I think their job is to find out stuff about what people call magics. They cover a lot of topics like health, biology, astronomy and geology.

Mr Google says that a scientist is a person that studies or has expert knowledge on natural or physical sciences.

An Egg sample of a scientist is Isaac Newton he found out about gravity and created the three laws of movement the most well known being the third law.

we have been doing things in science about matter here is a diagram:

water bottle rocket

In science we have been making bottle rockets powered by water and compressed air. It was really fun we got into groups of two or three, I was in a group of three with David and Lucy. I was the engineer and the rocket scientist so I pretty much did everything. I designed the fins and David cut them out, I then made a logo. Lucy made a nose cone which I tuned up so it was good for the rocket. I then attached the wings.

We launched the rocket by using a wooden launch pad and an air pump with a cork on the end. We added some water and pumped the pump to launch our rocket high into the sky.

When we launched it the first time it only went a short distance until it crashed into the ground. The second time it only went a little bit further before it crashed. On the third and final time it went the really far and ended up going farther than any other rocket. I was really happy at how far it had gone and I suggest you try it too.

in forensic science

In science we have been doing forensics science and have do some cool activity's. we have burned fabric, moulded hands, used microscopes, looked at ink spread apart and finger printing. we did fun activity's where we made cool looking items. I had a lot of fun doing it and I did it all with my buddy David.

We put finger prints on a balloon using coco powder and baby powder and inflated it.
We put all our finger prints on a page and then identified it.

The Scientific Method

Aim: to compare the boiling point of tap water and salt water

Hypothesis: I think salt water will be higher because the salt might give ti a boost

Equipment:
150 mls of tap water
2 teaspoons of salt
2 beakers with water
Bunsen burner
Bunsen burner tripod
heat resistant mat
gauze mat
thermometer

Method:

1. collect equipment
2. attach bunsen burner to a gas tap
3. fill two beakers with water
4. add salt to one beaker and mix
5. place the beaker with tap water on the tripod
6. place bunsen burner on the heat mat under neath
7. light the bunsen burner and adjust the flame to blue
8. as it heats up place the thermometer in the beaker of water until it is boiling
9. record results on blog
10. repeat the process with salt water

findings:

Tap water: The tap water boiled at 100 degrees.

Salt water: The salt water boiled at 99 degrees.
So the tap water boiled higher.

The Bunsen Burner

Aim: I want to safely be able to set myself on fire.

Equipment:

Water

Soap (detergent)

Lighter

Safety glasses

Method:

1. Be safe.
2. Wet your hands wrists and forearms.
3. Grab a scoop of bubbles.
4. Hold the bubbles up in front of your face as far away from you as you can.

It was really scary.

Dry ice and water

Aim: to watch dry ice and water mix to make coloured bubbles

Equiptment:

1. Dry ice
2. 80mls water
3. 3 drops food colouring
4. Detergent
5. Measurement beaker
6. Ice cream container

We did it but a problem happened in the sink.

Which gas is heaviest?

Aim: to find out which gas is heaviest out of CO2 and O2.

Equiptment:

1. Test tube
2. Test tube rack
3. Dry ice
4. Water
5. balloon

We used gas to blow up a balloon.

Be careful when using all equipment.
No eating or drinking in the lab.
