Vaquita porpoise are cool

Vaquita porpoise, aka little cow porpoise, aka phocoena sinus, aka gulf of California harbor porpoise. They have a polygynous reproductive lifestyle meaning one male mates with multiple females. They have large testes to compensate for how many females they mate with. Since they are such solitary and shy animals there is little information about their courtship behavior. Females do not produce a calf every year since they have a long offspring creation period and still need to care for their young. Large testes will be selected for because the male with the largest testes can mate with the most females.

The way evolution occurs is due to passing on DNA that is better adapted to survival however sometimes the better ability to survive starts by the DNA changing by means of mutation. Species refers to a group of adults in a group that can breed and produce fertile offspring that can also produce offspring.

Richard Killeen

The current task in art is to investigate a new artist. I have done some investigating of Richard Killeen recently (aka I scrolled through google images and decided what I liked about his art). Something I like about his art is the connected disconnection of the artwork. The items in the paintings are related to each other but they are barely touching.

Glazing in Art

 Glazing with oil paints involves painting a thin layer of paint over top of a regular painting. The glazing creates a reflective layer, it creates a different effect than just mixing colors. It requires a lot of patience because the layers need to be completely dry before you can continue painting. You can thin the layers by adding more oil to the pigment, the oilier the better.

Even though they all contain birds they are all different birds, there were more pictures that I had but I can't find them. If I had found the other pictures there would be a lot more budgies.

The only thing I can think of that's related to artist models is that I used shading which is new to my art style, although that's only for one of the paintings.

Connections In English

For the connections internal the film Blade Runner 2049 and the text Klara And The Sun, were studied.

• What connections can you draw so far between Klara and the Sun and Blade Runner 2049? For example: themes/ideas, characters, relationships, style, etc.?

The main connection, that I can think of, between Klara and the Sun and Blade Runner 2049 is discrimination. In Blade Runner 2049 it is common practice to think of replicants as inferior beings since the were created instead of being born. Replicants are typically insulted and threatened while still having human thoughts similarly AFs are feared because some of the populace can't understand how they think.

This connection can be stretched further and include the film Gattaca. People without genetic editing, referred to as invalids, are believed to be lesser although the film shows that it is not always true.

• Has your understanding of what it means to be human/have personhood changed since studying these texts? How so?

My understanding of personhood hasn't changed since studying these texts, after all:
                If it walks like a duck,
                If it quacks like a duck,

                Then it's probably a duck.

If a duck shaped robot walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it is basically a duck.

Oil painting but different

 I was doing some things involving sgraffito in art: 

Sgraffito is a oil painting technique that utilizes an undercoat of differently colored paint

to create texture in the paint’s surface.

I even tried making a painting but I can't find a simple way to get an image.

Osmosis Part 2

So it turns out the salt one has in fact stayed the same size, as i predicted. The word that can be used to compare the solution and the gummy bear is Isotonic. The gummy bear is isotonic to the salty solution.

The sugar solution has made the gummy bear bigger, contrary to my prediction. The scientific term hypertonic or hypotonic based on the arrangement of the statement. The gummy bear is hypertonic to the sugary solution.

The dihydrogen oxide solution (water) has made the gummy bear much bigger, to the point where the gummy bear's depiction of a membrane has broken. The gummy bear has absorbed water as I predicted however I did not predict the logical breaking of the membrane. This can also be considered hypertonic or hypotonic based o the arrangement of the statement. The water is hypotonic to the gummy bear.

Osmosis

Some gummy bears have been left in varying water mixes. This is an experiment to prove the existence of osmosis, AKA water diffusion. Since water balances concentrations of molecules on different sides of a membrane it is likely to affect the gummy bears. At a guess the gummy bear in the salty water will likely stay the same size. At a different guess the gummy bear in sugar water is likely to shrivel up. At a final guess the gummy bear in the water water is likely to absorb water.

Oil Paints

What is oil paint made of?
Particles of pigment suspended in a drying oil.

What are three benefits to painting with oil paints?
It dries slow, the colors blend well, it is good for seeing slight contrasts of colors.

What are three disadvantages to painting with oil paints?
I will dry slow when undiluted, oil paints are toxic, they don't clean with soap and water so they stain.

Why do you need to prime your surface before painting with oil paints?
It will help the paint stay on the surface.

How do you clean up your brushes and equipment after using oil paints?
You need to mix them in an oil solution. Then wipe the brush on a paper towel and mix with water. Wipe on a paper towel again and rinse with water until no more color comes out.

What is impasto technique?
It's an area of thick paint or texture, in a painting.

What is “Imprimatura” or “grisaille” in painting?
An under layer done in tones of grey.

What interesting facts did you find out about oil painting?

notes:
I notice that the artist blends colors very well and has a lot of skill. I also notice that compared to their paintings mine are really bad. The shading is really accurate and is done before the painting has color added.

eng practice paragraph

 Denis Villeneuve used the film techniques of dialogue combined with setting to show the aggressive relationships between man and replicant. We see this when K is verbally abused while coming home from his job when a Hungarian lady yells at him; “What’s up, you beautiful tinplate soldier? So you choose to come home now, you prick. Who’s waiting for you in there? I’ll kick your leg out, you bastard”. The dark grimy stairwell, crowded with people, shows that none of the actual people cleans it since they believe it should be left to the ‘slaves’. This dialogue is used in a way that gets more and more aggressive as K ignores it. This was done to help to explain the relationship between replicants and humans. It shows that replicants aren’t well thought of and that they are seen as useless no matter what they do.  It invokes a feeling of sympathy from the viewer because it makes the viewer realize that the lady is blaming K for the dark living space. This also helps us to better understand the background character’s feelings. This is important because it helps us to empathize with K because he is the main character and is intended to have a similarity to the viewer. This is comparable to peaceful protest, no matter what happens to the replicants they don’t retaliate. They take the verbal abuse and deal with it.
