A Failed Experiment

The first science experiment out of lockdown, woo, just kidding, oh dear, it failed. We tried to make oil of wintergreen and ended up with not oil of wintergreen. The end result was supposed to be some white crystals instead we got a brown liquid. We put the methanol and salicylic acid into the boiling tube, added the sulfuric acid and put it in the water bath over the bunsen burner but got the balance wrong. We would of succeeded if the teacher hadn't messed up the amounts, we could have done it with the right balance. Oil of wintergreen is used in heat muscle rub.

Return to PE

We have left lockdown to return to school. We are currently doing a blog post about our return to the PE class. I am not exactly looking forward to the return to the PE classroom. At home we were assigned stuff to do, I did it and also did extra PE by going for a bike ride.

Migration

In our lockdown for social studies we have been learning about migration. We were told to make a presentation. Here is mine:

I would not recommend this site for your own presentations it is of poor quality in the sense that you need to pay a truck load of money just to access a few features that are avaliable for free on other sites.

Narrative Arc

For our english work we will be writing a narrative but first we were told to make a narrative arc. My narrative is called Eevee Incarnation which is about a guy that dies and is reincarnated as an eevee. Here is a link to the narrative arc:

Pokemon The Movie 2000 Narrative Arc

During the covid-19 lockdown we have been working from home and have things to do for each of our classes. Before we entered the lockdown we were learning about narratives and narrative arcs in english. One of our work from home tasks was to create a narrative arc about a story or movie of our choosing. I chose to do mine on Pokemon The Movie 2000 also known as The Power Of One. 

So here it is:

The format of the narrative arc applies to any story:

Exposition: Where we start out.

Inciting Incident: What sparks the adventure.

Rising Action: The lead up to the strongest part of the story.

Climax: The place where something like a big battle would happen.

Falling Action: What happens after the big battle.

Resolution/Denouement: Where the story finishes.

Kiwifruit DNA Extraction

Yesterday in science we were smashing up kiwifruit to extract the DNA from it:

Aim:
To extract the DNA from kiwifruit.

Materials:
Test tube, ethanol, dish soap, salt, kiwifruit, snap lock bag, mortar & pestle, cloth for straining.

Method:

1. Squeeze kiwifruit insides into the mortar and crush it into pulp.
2. Open bag and put cloth over opening, pour pulp in.
3. Squeeze the liquid into the bag, add dish soap and mix.
4. Add salt and mix.
5. Pour liquid into test tube and add ethanol.
6. Wait and the DNA will separate from the cells.

Observations:

It looked like a stringy thingy blobby thingy.
