Summer Learning Journey day 1 (another day another week)

Activity 2: Lord of the Rings

Arguably one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time, The Lord of the Rings, was filmed in New Zealand. All three movies were directed by a New Zealander named Peter Jackson. The first movie was released in 2001, the second in 2002 and the third in 2003. The movies cost an estimated $300 million to produce!

Imagine that instead of spending the money on the movies, Peter Jackson decided to give all of this money to you. Lucky you! On your blog, tell us what you would do with $300 million dollars. How would you spend it? It is a lot of money so please think carefully about it and spend it wisely :-)

If I had $300 million I would by lots of pokemon and any money I had left would go toward charity.

  1. Kia Ora Thomas,

My name is Georgia and I am the cluster manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster. For the next few days, I'll be commenting on students blogs from Uru Manuka and I am very excited to see the work you all have been doing this summer.

It's great to see you have completed lots of activities for the Summer Learning Journey. Imagine the amount of pokemon you could buy with $300 Million! Which charities would you like to donate to? I think I would definitely give to the SPCA to help the animals, and to the Salvation Army as they do a lot of great things for New Zealanders who need support.

We'd love to see you write as much as possible for your blog posts, so maybe next time, include specifics e.g. which pokemons are your favourite, why you like them the most etc.

    Ka pai, keep it up

    Nga mihi
    Georgia

    1. Hi Georgia,
I would support the SPCA too because I like animals and the spca is trying to protect them. I would support TOMY because they make some great toys, like pokemon.

    2. Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the comment back! That's great that you'd support the SPCA too. Do you have any animals? I have a dog and two cats at home - they are very cute!

  2. Good Afternoon Thomas.

My names Clare and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey. I work with the Ako Hiko Cluster mainly but this week I am seeing what your cluster Uru Manuka has been upto these school holidays.
Its so cool seeing the wonderful work that your school has been doing and how active your school is at blogging. Do you blog a lot in school time also.

I think that if you had that much money you would be set up for life. Its alot of money to have.. and Peter Jackson would of also made a lot of money from the movies he made.
What charity would you donate your money to? Do you have a favourite or one you think is really important to you.
I really like the Starship Foundation. Thats super important to me as kids are our future right!

    Keep up the great work.

  3. Kia ora Thomas,
The SPCA would be a great charity to donate your money to. I always thought if I won lotto I would set up my own trust and then support young and old people who wish to get involved in sport, especially triathlons and cycling, as these are expensive to get involved in due to the cost of bikes.

Keep up the great work Thomas you certainly are making your way through the activities.

Which activity has been the most enjoyable so far?

  4. Hi there Thomas,

I hope you’re having a great holiday so far. Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey team! :)

I really enjoyed reading through your blog post and I thought your ideas for what you would do if you were given $300 million were awesome! You could probably buy ALL the pokemon with amount of money. It’s really awesome to hear that you would give the money you would have left to charity. Is there a charity in particular that you would donate to? I would probably donate to the cancer foundation or the SPCA to help with animal welfare in New Zealand!

If you would like to earn more points on your activity, do you think you could include some images of maybe some of the pokemon that you would buy? Or the logo of the charity that you would donate to? :)

Hope to hear from you soon and keep up the awesome blog posts!

    Cheers,
    Jade F :)
