eng practice paragraph

Denis Villeneuve used the film techniques of dialogue combined with setting to show the aggressive relationships between man and replicant. We see this when K is verbally abused while coming home from his job when a Hungarian lady yells at him; “What’s up, you beautiful tinplate soldier? So you choose to come home now, you prick. Who’s waiting for you in there? I’ll kick your leg out, you bastard”. The dark grimy stairwell, crowded with people, shows that none of the actual people cleans it since they believe it should be left to the ‘slaves’. This dialogue is used in a way that gets more and more aggressive as K ignores it. This was done to help to explain the relationship between replicants and humans. It shows that replicants aren’t well thought of and that they are seen as useless no matter what they do.  It invokes a feeling of sympathy from the viewer because it makes the viewer realize that the lady is blaming K for the dark living space. This also helps us to better understand the background character’s feelings. This is important because it helps us to empathize with K because he is the main character and is intended to have a similarity to the viewer. This is comparable to peaceful protest, no matter what happens to the replicants they don’t retaliate. They take the verbal abuse and deal with it.

Ethos, Pathos, and Logos

Ethos, Pathos, and logos are language features that help convince an audience of a point. They can be used to help subtly force someone to agree with a given point using their own emotions against them. Due to their convincing capabilities they are a good fix for advertising and persuasive writing.

Ethos uses someone's trust of somebody else to convince them of something they may not have cared about. For example who would you listen to? A man off the streets saying the world is flat or an Astronomer that says its round. Likely the Astronomer because he is more credible and trustworthy.

Pathos uses someone's empathy, sympathy, and other feelings to get them to agree. It uses things like a puppy that survived when nobody thought it would as fuel for their argument. if you watched a program about how sad life is at the pound for dogs you would most likely want to go and get a dog from the pound. Like in this paragraph a the tragic tale of a cute faced dog will convince some people.

Logos is the use of logic and reason to convince people, mainly through facts and statistics. "Studies show that...," is a form of logos used in reports, "studies show that drinking water is a great way to stay hydrated". It uses convincing facts, even skipping out on some of the negative ones, to create a sense of trustworthiness. For example a phone company may say 'it has a great camera' but will skip out on 'it has a terrible battery life'. You may then go and buy the phone knowing about the camera and not the battery.

All three language features are a good way to get people on your side of the argument. You should think about who benefits from your agreement or purchase, is it you or the company. Tip of advice, if something seems too good to be true then you should make sure you know all the reasons behind the advertising.

Well whoopty doo, I am doing something called a reflection.... I've done it before but it was probably forgotten.

Text title: Inbox

Subversion in Surrealist Art

For art we were to look at a different kind of art, subversion done by a surrealist artist named Giorgio De Chirico. Starting off we have a thumbnail sketch of a painting of his:
The Mystery and Melancholy of a Street, 1914
The idea behind this painting seems to be around kidnapping and other shady immoral things that happen the the shadows of normal life. The wagon in the picture is hidden in the shadows and the darkness makes it hard to see what's inside the wagon. The shaded out girl and ominous shadow on the road add another aspect to the thought of kidnappings. The painting contains a lot of dark colors and tones making the painting seem more darkened and spooky. The supposed time setting of the painting is dusk just before it becomes night, perfect time for things to go bad.

In comparison to Tracey Tawhiao the painting shows a similar sense of something being covered up. Both their art seems to talk about the things that aren't completely moral but nobody cares on the larger side of the equation. For Tracey the larger side of the equation is the large of people that only know English. For Chirico it is more towards the fact that if someone does get kidnapped only family and friends will care if they are or aren't found.

Enbarkment Towards The Watching Of Peter Rabbit 2

I traveled the great distance to the cinema to embark on the wonderful adventure of Peter Rabbit 2. What I picked up is that selling things and then stealing them back is a good way to make money. The popcorn was highly tasty with a great cinema style butter flavor and the fellow, but snuck in, M&Ms were equally as tasty but both were depleted before the end of the film. A film I would highly recommend for the aspiring thief as that is a big part of the plot. It is superior to the original film due to it's increase in the harmment of oblivious, braindead, McGregor style humans.
